OKLAHOMA CITY -- Cleveland County is suing software company MERSCORP for potentially lost revenue in mortgage filing fees. The suit was filed Tuesday. When a home is purchased, mortgage paperwork has to be filed with the county clerks office.

"Instead of doing that, there was a company created called MERSCORP by all the major financial institutions to help streamline the filing of all the paperwork," says County Commissioner Rod Cleveland.

Officials say that mainstreaming of documents using Mortgage Electronic Registration Systems or MERS - circumvented paying mortgage filing fees to the county clerks office.
